NieR:Automata Original Soundtrack

Today is the official release of the original soundtrack, but I picked it up last night. I reserved it from the Shinjuku Tower Records store some time ago to get a chance to attend the signing event later tonight. I heard from other friends who were trying to get a ticket to participate in the signing event that it was pretty random how tickets were being given out. From my understanding, priority was given to those who reserved a copy of the soundtrack ahead of time, but apparently the time when reservations were made and the time when you went into the store to pick up your copy also had a hand in determining who would be given an event ticket. How much of this is accurate, I’m not really sure, since it was purely word of mouth from my other Japanese friends.

So, I was really nervous when I went to the store after work last night… but the clerk gave me a ticket like it was nothing. xD I tried to hid my excitement while at least showing some level of gratitude. 😛

I’m working on adding the track list in both English and Japanese here, but WordPress really dislikes tables… and I’m really particular when my tables don’t display correctly… 🙁 I’ll try to upload that as soon as I can.

NieR:Automata World Guide Novellas

This post is a work in progress. Please refresh this page to see what is new.
Last Edit: 2017-03-14 – 11:06:37 PM

Two related novellas in the World Guide book, published in tandem with the original Japanese release of the game on February 23:

  • Orbital Base Station “Bunker” – Observation Diary by Eishima Jun
  • The Memory Cage by Eishima Jun

* This novella has 6 separate sections that tend to shift the perspective between 9S and 2B. It’s never clearly stated when it’s supposed to take place, but simply from the narrative, the reader is lead to believe that this is sometime before the start of the game, on a mission to the desert zone.

* These are notes and translations I made after a quick read-through.
Further details and/or corrections will come at a later date.

MAJOR SPOILERS for portions of the game are included in the material below. Please don’t read further if you don’t want to be spoiled.

Inochi ni Fusawashii / Deserving of Life – Picture Book by Yoko Taro

The new single “Inochi ni Fusawashii” (Deserving of Life) by amazarashi was just released today in two forms: the stand-alone CD or the CD+DVD and picture book bundle.

The picture book itself is a total of 30 pages with its own unique illustrations to accompany the story. Below is my translation:

In the distant, distant, distant, distant, distant, distant future.
Aliens have invaded the Earth.
Strange robot weapons known by
The difficult name “Bio-machines” subjugated the land
As humanity fled to the Moon. This is the story of one of those robot weapons
That was there, upon the face of the planet.

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

My name is Plato1728.
I am a Bio-machine, created to invade the Earth.
……but, I’m somehow different from my friends.
I can’t speak nearly as well and I’m really leaky.
You know, I’m probably a defect.

My name is plato1728.
I am a Bio-machine, created to invade the Earth.

That’s why I must fight.
But, I’ll never make it because I’m too slow.

By the time I made it to the battlefield, the fight was already over.
My other Bio-machine friends didn’t want anything to do with me.

I wonder why I can’t speak well.
Or why I can’t walk fast.
Or why I can’t attack with lightning speed.
Or why I can’t defeat my enemies very well.
Without the acceptance of my friends, I was alone.

I was always alone.

Then one day.
When I was lost and strayed from my friends,
I found myself in the ruins of a factory.
There I found some small pieces of junk.

I thought we were very similar,
The junk that could no longer move and I.

As if something beckoned me forward, I passed through the factory ruins.
Even though the pieces of junk couldn’t speak,
I felt like we could be good friends.

After all, I was the same.

96 hours 32 minutes after meeting the junk,
I discovered a factory that had remained a secret.
My frineds unanimously said things like:

“It’s pointless to get worked up over silly dolls that have no soul.”
“You’re a simplton who can’t even go out to the battlefield.”

They said all sorts of horrible things.
I didn’t say anything in response, but instead tried everything
I could to protect the junk so they wouldn’t break.

1358 hours and 05 minutes later.
An all-out assault by enemy forces began.
From within the flames, my friends calmly fought back.

But I was anything but calm.
Because that place suddenly transformed into a war zone
Was the factory ruins where the junk resided.

What should I do?
The factory’s falling apart.
The junk is on fire.
Please stop.
Our memories…
Help me.
It’s become a war zone.
I can’t take this.

The next moment,
I realized that my body had suddenly transformed on its own.
The wreckage and weapons around me affixed to my body.

Like the hostile machines,
And even my Bio-machine brethren,

This was the first time I realized that I was a model with this particular ability.
I was a weapon created to fight, a tool to kill.

The lives of those that died flowed into my being.

FIght, destrOY, stEAl, kiLl.

But…… I……

In the raging fire,
I killed both friend and foe.

When I came to,
the junk was gone.

Who’s the fool?
Where am I?

What is the purpose of this life?

The 215th Descent Mission: Overview Report

On August 1st, 11944, a joint operation to regain control of the Old Europe central zone was planned between the human forces, launching from the Bunker in orbit, and the Resistance on the ground. However, from July 31st, descending squadrons were delayed the due to a large-scale EMP attack by enemy Bio-machines. More than 4200 Resistance units were subsequently lost.

On the other hand, a never-before-seen development on the side of the enemy Bio-machines was confirmed, indicating multiple instances of Bio-machines attacking each other. It appeared as though the enemy machines fused together to form a single, gigantic machine.
() The battle continued the following day, but due to additional enemy reinforcements, the human forces were forced to retreat. The mission ended in failure.

Currently, analysis of the video footage is underway by the Development Department.

New Smartphone Game by Yoko Taro: SINoALICE

Almost exactly a year ago, we got the first whiff of Yoko Taro possibly working with Square Enix to develop a smartphone game, which I wrote about here.

Today, we were presented with a trailer and some additional information regarding the game and its story.

The absolute worst “Story”

NieR:Automata Special Talk Live in Shinjuku

The Special Talk Live at Loft/Plus One in Shinjuku was held on Monday, February 13th from 7:00-9:30pm; doors opened at 6:00pm.

Although tickets were quickly sold out through the e+ ticket service, I prayed to a couple Dragon Gods and maybe a few Watchers to help me get a ticket to go… and they even helped me to get an extra one for a friend. Thank you, Gods of 2017!! <3

I worked until 4pm that day but it took me over an hour to get to the venue. I met with my friend and we went directly to the place at about 5:30pm, 30 minutes before they would start letting people in. Once in the seating area, you could choose to sit wherever you wanted… So, since my ticket was #13, I was able to get a pretty decent seat, front & center! <3

Now, just to let people know, I can’t really divulge what was discussed at this event since we were sworn to secrecy, but there really wasn’t much of anything new. The majority of the talk dealt with behind-the-scenes stories on the development.

Now that the game has been out for almost a week, it may be okay to talk a little bit more about this event. Plus, the PlayStation.Blog has updated a review and nice video that summarizes the events of the night.

There were all kinds of awesome things decorated all over the place. There were at least four posters on the far wall, and each round little table (one table for roughly 4 people) was decorated with a nice round placemat. Each place setting also came with a drink coaster with the YoRHa emblem printed on it.

Also, each table came with a post-it notepad for people to ask questions to the development team. I couldn’t help but write a rather spoiler-heavy question that I knew they couldn’t discuss…but had to ask any way (something regarding a certain character from the YoRHa stage play <– *beware of potential spoilers!!*).

In retrospect, I probably should have asked something more fun…but… I couldn’t help myself. Alas, they didn’t choose my question, but one of the other girls at my table had her question answered! Great job! I don’t remember what it was, though… :/

At some point, they showed a new video for Europe to promote the Day One release that comes with a black shirt and white Emil face. In the video, Yoko rolls around on the ground with the T-shirt and says a lot of expletives in English. lol It’s quite amusing!

If you remember this photo that Saito-san posted during their tour in London…

…this photo was probably taken after multiple takes for the video. xD

Taura played a little bit more of never-before-seen gameplay that apparently takes place sometime during the middle of the first playthrough. When a boss appeared, he seemed to be doing well for a while… until he utterly died. He was so shocked that he spilled his drink all over the place. The staff had just gotten him that drink, too… xD Afterward, he was a bit flustered, his face turned red. Very cute. haha

The vocalist Akita Hiromu from amazarashi, who collaborated with Yoko Taro on the new theme song “Inochi ni Fusawashii / Deserving of Life”, was also at the event. After screening the music video, there was some extra time, so they asked of Akita-san would come on stage and talk for a little while. He said that they didn’t originally plan to destroy all of the dolls in the video but… it was Akita’s idea to do it, so… 😛

About halfway through the event, they guys mentioned something about the Square Enix Cafe and how they will have dishes available from Feb 20-Mar 17 and how they have one dessert that’s topped with what looks like the bullets in.

This is actually strawberry jelly… but fans have always asked for them to make an ikura donburi (samon roe rice bowl)… and that’s what they did!! I probably should have taken a photo of it before I ate… but it was a TON of ikura on top of rice, served in a nice bowl with Emil on the inside. They wrapped the bowls in plastic before adding the food so that the bowls would stay relatively clean to take home. When we were all finished, they said that everyone had a bag and a box to put the bowls in under each of our chairs. I don’t think anyone really noticed that there was anything under there…!

At the end of the event, several of the press guys for the PlayStation Blog and Famitsu (maybe others!) took a commemorative photo of all of us with Yoko Taro, Saito Yosuke, Taura Takahisa and the Gravity Daze guys. Maybe these photos will be released sometime around when they plan to show bits of the event for the next live broadcast…?? We also took a photo flipping off the camera in honor of Yoko’s vulgar video… It was amazing. lol

We were also able to take a couple pictures of them, too…!! I took a ton of photos, but I don’t know if it’s right for me to post them here or not yet. I’ll keep them for a while and see if anyone else who when to the event starts posting stuff. Otherwise, it they may have to remain private.

Tickets to this event were only 2,000 Yen, and yet we received an ikura-don in the Emil bowl plus nomihodai (bottomless free drinks). A lot of money was put into this event and us fans were almost entirely on the receiving end. Tickets easily could have been 5x as expensive or more to make a profit, but… I really felt like this was their way to give back a little to their fans. I really doubt they have much in the budget to do anything too elaborate, which is probably why this was such an exclusive event, but… I can’t help but feel extremely humbled that they would even do anything like this for us. I am entirely filled with gratitude and thoroughly enjoy showing my support for these people and their work!

On the way out of the event, we could personally say hello to Saito-san, Yoko-san, and Taura-san. I entirely can’t remember what I mumbled to Yoko, but I do remember shaking his hand pretty hard. ^^;;

Thank you so much for an amazing night! <3

▲ This is the 6th re-write of the presentation script. Just about every presentation like this has a written script, but whether those involved actually stay on script or deviate a little from it is anybody’s guess (photo by Saito Yosuke).

▲ Yoko Taro signing his name on the postcards given to those present at the event (photo by Saito Yosuke).

▲ Shot of the Emil donburi bowl (photo by Taura Takahisa).

▲ The photo on the right is a custom-made hat that one of the girls at the VERY FRONT of the seating area was wearing–I’m pretty sure I saw her in line at the Music Concert & Talk Live last April. The second photo is the sign that all of the speaking presenters had to denote topics that are absolutely secret!! (photos by Kitao Yasuhiro).

▲ Here’s a shot of a bunch of the postcards that Yoko Taro, Taura Takahisa, and Saito Yosuke all signed. It looks like Taura even alternated his message. On the left he wrote “Thanks for today!” and on the write he wrote “Please look forward to !” (photo by Yoko Taro).
